P4 Science Remedial Work 2020 Set 3: Our Food – Classes of Food

This Primary Four science remedial pack for 2020 (Set Three) covers the topic Our Food under the Human Health theme. It explains key terms such as nutrients, nutrition, malnutrition and deficiency diseases. It describes the main food classes: proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, fats and oils, mineral salts, roughages and water. For each class, it gives food sources, explains why the body needs it, and names the diseases caused by a lack of it, including kwashiorkor, marasmus, scurvy, rickets, anaemia and goitre. It also covers food contamination, ways of preparing food and food preservation methods. The pack ends with two exercises of short-answer and matching questions so learners can check what they have learnt.
