A-Level Physical Chemistry Topical Test: The Gaseous State of Matter (May 2020)
1 view 0 downloads 0 shares 2 October 2026

This Advanced Level physical chemistry topical test focuses on the gaseous state of matter and is set in the style of UACE Chemistry Paper 1 (P525). It has six structured questions, and each one comes with model answers and a mark allocation. The questions cover Boyle's, Charles' and Gay-Lussac's laws, and calculations using the ideal gas equation. Learners also apply Graham's law of effusion to find the molar mass of an amine, and use Dalton's law of partial pressures and mole fractions. Later questions cover the kinetic theory of gases, the compressibility factor and how real gases deviate from ideal behaviour. The test ends with critical constants, Andrews' isotherms for carbon dioxide and the conditions needed to liquefy a gas.
