P.5 Social Studies Lesson Notes – Term 1

This set of Primary Five Social Studies lesson notes covers the first term and is laid out as daily lessons, each with its topic, subtopic and language competences. It begins with map skills: the elements of a good map, types of scale, distance calculations, map symbols and the compass. It then covers latitudes and longitudes, the movement of the Earth, equinoxes and solstices. Later lessons explain where Uganda is, who its neighbours are, and what it means to be landlocked, including imports and exports. The notes also cover physical features such as plateaus, and block and volcanic mountains like Rwenzori, Elgon, Mufumbiro and Moroto. Each lesson ends with exercises for learners.
