S4 Geography Notes: The Rhinelands – Netherlands, Germany and Belgium

These Senior 4 Geography notes cover the Rhine basin countries. The main section is on the Netherlands. It explains the country's relief, climate and soils, then describes land reclamation through the Zuyderzee and Delta projects and how polders are made and used. It also lists the benefits and problems of polders and the steps taken to solve them. Further sections cover Dutch farming, including horticulture and dairy farming, the mining of coal, natural gas and oil, and industry around Rotterdam and Amsterdam. The title shows that Germany and Belgium are covered later in the document. Exam-style questions and sketch maps support revision.
