Nutrition: Senior 2 Biology Notes
0 views 0 downloads 0 shares 3 October 2026

These Senior 2 Biology notes explain how living organisms get and use nutrients. They compare autotrophic nutrition (photosynthesis and chemosynthesis) with heterotrophic nutrition, including parasitism, saprotrophism, symbiosis and holozoic feeding. The notes then cover the main food nutrients: carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, vitamins, mineral elements, water and roughage. For each nutrient they give its sources, properties and functions, along with the deficiency diseases it can cause, such as kwashiorkor and marasmus. Laboratory food tests appear in procedure, observation and conclusion tables. These include Benedict's, iodine, biuret, emulsion and DCPIP tests. Reference tables also link vitamins and minerals to their deficiency symptoms.
