S2 English Holiday Work: Functional Writing Tasks

This one-page holiday assignment for Senior 2 English Language gives learners practice in functional and guided writing. There are four tasks. In the first, learners write a complaint letter of about 200 words to a supermarket manager about a faulty wrist watch and a rude shop attendant. In the second, they write a thank-you letter to an uncle who sent a bicycle as a birthday gift. The third asks for an advertisement of about 150 words for a new salon serving holiday makers. In the last task, learners explain how to prepare their favourite dish. The paper practises letter formats, persuasive writing and describing a process.
