S3 History of East Africa Notes: Religious Wars, Scramble and Partition
0 views 0 downloads 0 shares 3 October 2026

These are teacher-style notes for Senior 3 learners studying East African history. The notes start with the religious wars in Buganda (1885–1900) and explain their background, causes and results, including the 1892 Battle of Mengo and Lugard's part in it. They then define scramble and partition and cover the economic, political, strategic and humanitarian reasons European powers wanted East Africa. Other sections deal with King Leopold II's activities in the Congo, the decisions of the Berlin Conference, the stages of partition and the 1886 Anglo-German Agreement. The notes are organised as numbered points, which makes them useful for revision and for practising essay answers.
